Locations

The main location for filming our trailer will be this house in london suburb, Bromley. This home is typical of the area and reflects the fairly average lifestyle of the characters. This, like most of the mise en scen, will be fairly bland to keep the focus on the colour which the characters bring to the story.

Final Logo.

The clear favourite from both us and those surveyed was the simplistic big ben. We felt this sums up our company well without being over dramatic.

Logo

We carried out a survey of potential logos to decide which one would be best for our company from an audiences perspective.

Casting Update

When casting our film I encountered a problem in the fact that all the people auditioning were young and we lacked a sufficient amount of contacts that fit into the age range of our characters. This could present a problem as it threatens the integrity of our film.

The first solution that I thought of was to change the plot to a sixth form prom, instead of a wedding. This meant that the cast would all fit the relevant characteristics and we would have an easy location to film on, however I think this would massively lower the standard of our film a it would veer towards a 'bubblegum teen movie'.

I instead decided to examine the elements of our film that could be easily changed: the hair, makeup and costume. I will take inspiration from Brad Pitt in the film 'the mysterious case of Benjamin Button' (pictured below).

Pitch.

Sibling rivalry is one thing. But for younger brother Henry, it's all gone too far. After having the girl of his dreams stolen by his older brother, he has just 10weeks to find someone better and end the rivalry once and for all.

We will then discuss locations, potential casting, budget and give the audience an opportunity to voice any concerns they may have, as well as ask questions.

Analysis of Trailers.

Insidious 2.

The trailer begins with the characters  happily enjoying each others company to upbeat music. However the first thing we notice is that the inside of the house is dark and all windows are opaque, in stark contrast to the well lit and visible exterior. This suggests to the audience that the house is home, not just to 'Grandma', but also to a host of secrets and unexpected occurrences. Upon entering the house we see more evidence of the tinted secrecy by the fact 'Grandma' is wearing black. When text such as 'THEIR CHILD INHERITED A GIFT' is seen, it appears to on a plain black background, suggesting that the answers/clues will only come from the darkness.

Inspiration from TV

I looked at televised British comedies and rom coms. One TV based comedy which I took particular inspiration was Dan Clark's How Not to Live Your Life. This is a low budget British comedy that was shown on the bbc. It has recieved international recognition from critics and viewers alike.

Interview: 'Henry' Charlie Palmer Cogan

Charlie will both star in the film, and be part of the production team. This will benfiet us massivley, as charlie will be available for filming at most times. His interview was a sucseess and we decided he is perfect for the role. His previous experience and future ambitions were also signifcant in the descion making progress.

Teaser Poster

We tried to make our poster look like a wedding invitation, this gives clues to the plot of the film whilst not giving too much away. which is essentially the purpose of a teaser poster.

LOGO

Here are some initial ideas for our companies logo. We felt that it was important to have text based
logo, giving us a professional looking image.

Survey Monkey

For audience research purposes I have created an online survey, this should give us a better idea of our target demographic.

Title

We decided to name our film Plus1. We felt that this was simple enough not to give too much of the plot away, yet detailed enough people would understand the context of the film.

Production Company Logo Development: Skyline

The production company is based in london, therefore we decided that we would include iconic landmarks in the logo. Charlie then thought a vista type view of London's iconic landmarks would be a good idea for a logo. Our first attempt can be seen here.

I changed the focus and sharpness of the skyline picture and moved the film name. The font was also changed, to a fine serif font. This adds a sense of professionalism.

For the final stage of development, I removed the blue backdrop and placed a slant on the company name. The logo fits the stereotype for an independent production company, as it is simplistic, yet effective.

Trailer Inspiration. - The Worlds End.

We took inspiration from the trailer of 'The World's End', the third installment in Simon Pegg and Nick Frosts' Cornetto series. We feel it would be easy to use the trademark features of these trailers. such as the beginning being mainly dialogue based and then cutting in with a catchy/upbeat song. This allows the trailer to accurately communicate to a viewer what the film is all about whilst giving it a fun overall look.

Plot Development

Plot Development

We decided that the brother love interest, the female best friend, will appear at the start of the film as a goth type character. Then, as the film develops, Henry realises that he loves her, and she becomes more attractive. This will provide the romance aspect of the film.

FEMALE BEST FREND - Casting / Make Up

We feel someone who is conventionally good looking could be used to play the best friend, however her good looks would have to be masked using gothic /emo makeup.

She would then be transformed later on in the film by removing the make up and making her look more natural. An example of a well known actress we could do this to would be Eva Longoria.

Evaluation of the Pitch.

Evaluation of the Pitch.

Above is our original pitch. We started planning our opening speech by taking key words/ideas from the idea of our film and strain them together into a short piece of text, these keywords are in red. We felt this communicated our message very accurately and also precisely, however the last line caused confusion amongst some members of the audience who felt the last line, 'and end it all once and for all' suggested suicide from the character. Subsequently we have decided to change this line to 'and end the rivalry once and for all'. Below is what the new pitch would look like.

During our pitch we also experienced trouble naming the exact locations that we would film in, something which we will need to improve on for our second pitch as in the real world no investor would pump money into a film with relatively loose ideas. This also meant we would have to think about the cast. The following posts on characters and locations will give a more detailed picture on these aspects.
